Stokke Recalls YOYO³ Strollers Due To Potential Brake Failure That May Create Injury Hazard
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (November 21, 2024) – Stokke has issued a recall for its YOYO³ Stroller due to concerns that it can pose an injury hazard.
The recall was issued on November 14, 2024. Around 2,890 units were sold.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the parking brake on the stroller can disengage, thereby creating an injury hazard.
The strollers come in an olive green color and could be purchased at numerous stores, including Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Crate and Barrel, Amazon, and Albee Baby.
No injuries have been reported thus far.
Liability For Injuries Caused By Baby Strollers
Injury involving baby strollers remains alarmingly common. According to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, “A study conducted by the Center for Injury Research and Policy of the Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital found that, over a 21-year period from 1990 through 2010, almost 361,000 children aged 5 years and younger were treated in U.S. hospital emergency departments for stroller- or carrier-related injuries – that’s about two children every hour.” There are a number of steps that parents should take in order to prevent their child from being injured by a stroller.
- Parents should ensure that their child is always buckled up.
- Parents should always keep the handles of the stroller clear.
- Parents should only use strollers that fit their child.
- Parents should periodically check if their stroller has been recalled.
Companies that make children’s strollers have a legal obligation to ensure that they are reasonably safe. These strollers must comply with all safety standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Among other things, strollers should be stable with a dual-brake system. If a children’s stroller has design defects that prevent them from braking properly, this could form the basis of a product liability claim. Stroller accidents can lead to very serious injuries.
- Head trauma
- Broken bones
- Lacerations
- Spinal cord injuries
Companies also have a legal obligation to warn about the non-obvious dangers associated with the use of their products. One of the main dangers of a stroller is that they will be used for children that don’t quite fit. This increases the odds that an accident may take place. Parents should be warned about this danger. The parent of any child being injured by a stroller may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
