Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing Issues Recall For Daikin FIT, Amana Brand S-series, and Goodman SD Heat Pumps Because They Can Expose Consumers to Excessive Heat
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 28, 2024) – Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing has issued a recall for the Daikin FIT, Amana Brand S-series, and Goodman SD heat pumps.
The recall date was listed as June 27, 2024. Around 56,000 units were sold, including 5,522 sold in Canada. A power interruption with the heat pump can result in the devices delivering heat even when they are in cooling mode.
This can result in consumers being exposed to excessive heat. The elderly, children, the disabled, and the bedridden are particularly at risk.
Liability For Injuries Caused By Faulty Heat Pumps
Excessive heat can be extremely dangerous and is involved in many injuries and deaths every year. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Heat related deaths and illnesses are preventable. Despite this fact, approximately 1,220 people in the United States are killed by extreme heat every year.” This is why it is so important that heat pumps are always functional. Companies should take a number of measures in order to prevent heat pumps from malfunctioning.
- Heat pumps should be installed correctly and appropriately sized for the space that they service.
- Heat pumps need routine maintenance by qualified technicians.
- Companies that manufacture heat pumps must ensure that they comply with safety regulations.
Companies that manufacture heat pumps have a legal obligation to ensure that their products are reasonably safe. For example, a defect with the manufacturing process could cause heat pumps to be faulty. It is also possible that a heat pump was created with inherent design defects that caused it to malfunction. Generally speaking, companies can be held strictly liable when they create products that are inherently defective. Victims of excessive heat can suffer a wide range of injuries.
- Heat stroke
- Cardiac arrest
- Seizures
- Organ failure
- Death
It can be hard to know where to begin after any injury involving a faulty heat pump. These incidents can cause serious injuries and even death. To make matters worse, companies that manufacture heat pumps will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility if someone is injured by their product. This is why it is so important for accident victims to seek the advice of a product liability attorney as early as possible.
