Liability For McHenry County Tractor Accidents

Many people are seriously injured every year in tractor accidents. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “A total of 146 workers suffered fatal injuries in incidents involving tractors in 2018. This was the lowest number of work deaths involving tractors on record between 2011 and 2018. Among fatal incidents involving tractors, 103 of the 146 deaths in 2018 occurred to workers age 55 or older, and 67 deaths were to workers age 65 or older.” There are a number of common causes of tractor accidents.

  • Tractors have a high center of gravity and are more prone to tipping over than other vehicles, especially on uneven terrain.
  • Steering malfunctions can make it difficult for drivers to avoid obstacles.
  • A lack of safety features such as rollover protective structures (ROPs) can make ordinary accidents catastrophic.

Depending on the facts of any case, there could be numerous sources of liability for an accident involving a tractor. For example, the company that made a tractor could be held at fault if a design defect with the tractor contributed to the collision. A property owner could also be liable if an accident was caused by an unsafe condition. Victims of tractor accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

It can be hard to know what to do after a tractor accident. Victims often need to take extensive periods of time away from work. They may also be left with high medical bills. Many of these accidents are completely preventable. Any person injured in a tractor accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim. A personal injury attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
