Liability For Stillman Valley Gas Explosion Accidents
Gas leaks are one of the most common causes of home explosions in the United States. According to WBTV, “since 2010 there have been more than 2,700 gas leak incidents across the country that were considered significant and that 362 of those incidents resulted in explosions. Additionally, those incidents have injured nearly 700 people and killed more than 140.” There are a number of steps that can be taken in order to prevent gas leaks.
- Markers should be placed around gas lines to warn people of their presence.
- Pipelines should be regularly checked for leaks corrosion or damage.
- Homes should have methane detectors installed.
- The pressure in gas lines should be regularly checked.
Depending on the facts of any case, a gas company could be liable for a home explosion. Pursuant to Illinois Civil Code 740 ILCS 130/2, property owners have a duty to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition. To that end, gas companies must periodically inspect their lines to ensure that they are in working order. Victims of gas explosions tend to suffer very serious injuries including:
- Broken bones

Any person that is injured in a gas explosion may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain ands suffering.
