Is there a time limit for contacting the WC insurance company?Q: What is the time limit to contact the insurance company that handled the workman's comp. claim to secure your monetary settlement?
--Bonnie, Springfield, IL
In a Workers Compensation proceeding, the time limits have nothing to do with contacting an insurance carrier. You never have to contact the carrier. There is a question about whether its wise for you to ever do that. But to your question. The time limits in Illinois are as follows. You must report your accident to a supervisor for your employer within 45 days of the accident. Further you must file the case with the Industrial Commission within 3 years of the accident. There are some exceptions to this rule however which may prolong the filing date.
